PhaseFocus – Chairman and Investor
Founded in 2008 from research by John Rodenburg at Sheffield University, Phase Focus uses sophisticated algorithms to reconstruct wavefronts and hence images and phase from a series of overlapping diffraction patterns produced by illuminating an object with coherent radiation.
This so called “lensless imaging” technique, also known as Ptychography, has applications in electron, X-ray EV and optical microscopy. Phase Focus is concentrating particularly on Live Cell imaging, where the optical phase allows the study of cells without the use of toxic fluorecsent labels. In this way whole populations of cells can be followed from birth to death over many days and the effect of various drugs or environmental challenges studied, with clear applications in Personalised Medicine.
